What can Housing and Human Services do?

The Boulder County Department of Housing and Human Services offers support to those who need it – health coverage, food and financial assistance, and numerous other services for the young and old. The problem? Many Boulder County residents were unaware of the scope of services available, and even when they were, felt hesitant to ask for help. The department itself had recently undergone mergers and internal reorganization, and it welcomed the opportunity to streamline its messaging and look with an internal and external campaign.

Hope for the future, help when you need it.

User-friendly branding

Pivot created a new logo to modernize the department’s image. The logo plays on the idea of doors, reflecting the department’s “Any door is the right door” service philosophy, meaning that anyone can come to any DHHS staff person for guidance. Pivot created simple icons representing DHHS’ services and a color-coding system for all the department’s service divisions – making it easy for clients or prospective clients to find information on the programs they need.

Priming the staff

Before taking the “Hope for the future, help when you need it” message and new look to the streets, Pivot and county officials launched an internal staff awareness campaign introducing the new DHHS. The new logo, icons, color scheme and campaign message were part of an ongoing departmental organization effort. Pivot assisted county officials with hosting a launch party for employees at one of the largest DHHS offices, kicked off with a video introducing the campaign messaging and new departmental logo. The video incorporated staff interviews and client photos to reflect the mission of employees and the department.

Reaching the public

The next phase of the campaign involved a many-pronged outreach campaign throughout Boulder County. The advertising campaign included print, digital and outdoor ads on buses and public transit stations. Pivot also created brochures, door hangers and postcards, all highlighting the “Hope for the future, help when you need it” message and the service icons.

“We are here and ready”

Through the campaign, Pivot helped DHHS inform the public about their much-needed services, positioning them as a modern, streamlined agency available to all Boulder County residents. Pivot’s goal was to let the public know the department was here and ready for them. And with every bus ad, brochure, flyer, door hanger, handbill and poster distributed throughout Boulder, the message continues to spread. Today, Pivot continues to work with the department on outreach campaigns.
