BOULDER – June 21, 2010 – With Bike to Work Day just two days away, legendary entertainer and bicycle enthusiast Pee-wee Herman took to Twitter today to support Boulder’s annual celebration of cycling and pedestrian culture.

“Wishing everyone in Boulder, CO, a happy Walk & Bike Month!” he tweeted to more than 500,000 followers on his Twitter feed, @peeweeherman.

Pee-wee Herman personified the joy of riding a bike in his 1985 hit “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure.” The classic comedy tells the story of Pee-wee’s love for his red bicycle and his cross-country mission to recover the bike after a thief steals it. Today Pee-wee is working on a new theatre show set to open on Broadway later this year. For more information, visit www.peewee.com.

People in Boulder who plan to ride or walk on Wednesday as part of Bike to Work Day can register to help officials calculate how much a single day of riding a bike can reduce Boulder’s carbon footprint. They’ll also be eligible for a range of prizes. Forty-five breakfast stations will be set up around town on Wednesday morning. Register by visiting http://communitycycles.org/bike-month.html.
